Jatoba is an extraordinary Brazilian hardwood; salmon to red in color when freshly milled turning dramatically to a deep red in sunlight. It is a very popular hardwood used for flooring, cabinetry and furniture traditionally. Its rich coloring varies from salmon to reddish orange/brown with dark brown streaking and golden luster – which enhances its overall beauty. More recently it is being used for siding and decorative accents because of its weathering ability – does not require any preservative treatment. Jatoba is commonly known as Brazilian Cherry or copal, South American Cherry (Jatai, Courbaril, Locust, Algarrobo). It is often used as a substitute for mahogany in flooring and decking; it is not as porous as mahogany but somewhat harder and denser.
