Acetylated Woods
Acetylated Woods
Acetylation is the process of replacing naturally occurring Hyrdoxyl groups, which attract water in wood fiber at the cellular level, with moisture resistant acetyl groups. Wood cellulose has a small number of naturally occurring acetyl groups but there are not enough of these to provide durability or stability benefits. Accoya is the first company to develop a process of increasing these Acetyl groups while reducing the hydroxyl groups, yielding an extremely durable and sustainable building material. Once treated, Accoya’s line of Acetylated wood products are warrantied for 50 years of above ground usage and 25 years in-ground or in fresh water use. This unmatched warranty is possible due to the science behind this process.
